a day hiking

This morning at about 8:30 the seven of us at home packed into the minivan and drove just over an hour and a half. I slept for most of the ride (an effect of my drugs). Eventually we arrived at Starved Rock State Park on the banks of the Illinois river. Once we parked we met up with my Aunt Ruth. It was about 1.5 hours for my family and her to be able to get to the park, so a nice meeting place for a fun day of hiking. We went into the visitor center and figured out just where the trails led before setting out for what’d be about 6-7 miles of walking. Most of yesterday was filled with crazy thunderstorms; we were pretty worried that we’d be followed by a bunch of rain. Thankfully it hasn’t dropped a bit all day long, up north anyway, Aunt Ruthie say she met some when she was driving up though.

Anyway the park was very nice. Even though it was hot and humid, the scenery was very beautiful, we saw about 5 big waterfalls. We were able to walk in a few canyons and go around the back of a few waterfalls, it was really cool. We ate lunch at a lodge on top of a bluff, and later we had a nice naptime/chat. Overall it was a very good day, I was finally able to do something besides nothing after my surgery. I’ve been trying to upload images for about 30 minutes now, but it’s being facist, so just visit Flickr and check them out.
